  • 21 managers retain their place in the FE Hall of Fame for fourth-year running
  • 13 managers enter FE Hall of Fame for first time

LONDON, 16 APRIL 2018: FE, provider of investment research, software and data to the asset management industry, announced today that 50 fund managers have made it into the 2018 FE Alpha Manager Hall of Fame - an elite group of managers who have been consistently FE Alpha Manager rated over the last seven years.

Over 40% (21) of the managers in this select group have retained their seat for the fourth year running – since the Hall of Fame was launched in 2015. There are also 13 new entrants including UK equities expert Anthony Cross of Liontrust, Teera Chanpongsang, the Emerging Asia fund manager at Fidelity and sustainable investment specialist, Mike Fox of Royal London.

Charles Younes, research manager at FE said: “Seven years of delivering risk-adjusted alpha and consistent outperformance is a big ask, especially during prolonged periods of uncertainty and market volatility.  It’s therefore very encouraging to see so many managers retaining their spot or joining this elite group for the first time.  Investors can be confident that the performance of managers in the FE Hall of Fame is down to genuine skill and conviction, rather than luck.”

Managers retaining their place in the FE Alpha Manager Hall of Fame for the fourth year running include fixed income heavyweights Richard Woolnough of M&G and Fidelity’s Ian Spreadbury.  US equities manager Jenny Jones of Schroders also made the grade again this year alongside Aberdeen Standard’s Harry Nimmo and Neptune’s Rob Burnett.

FE Alpha ratings are judged according to managers’ track records since 2000, with extra weighting for those with the longest track records to highlight the benefits of experience. The rating is based on three components: risk-adjusted alpha; consistency of outperformance versus their benchmark; and outperformance in both up and down markets.

Overall, 198 FE Alpha Manager Ratings were awarded in the 2018 rebalance.  There were 43 new entrants this year, 32 of which had never previously been awarded an FE Alpha Manager Rating.

The Hall of Fame will be displayed at the FE Alpha Manager Awards ceremony to be held at the Museum of London on 17 May, 2018.
