Infrastructure and scale: what investment data feeds need to keep working as you grow

A data feed that works today is not guaranteed to work next year. Add new jurisdictions, share classes and downstream systems, and the pipeline starts to strain. Files arrive late. Mappings break. Someone in operations spends Monday morning working out why a field has changed shape.

It’s important to interrogate the infrastructure behind your investment data feeds, and whether it can scale with you.

In FE fundinfo's 2026 Asset Managers Report, 65% of respondents said that fragmented fund data is preventing them from improving operational efficiency. Much of that fragmentation is an infrastructure problem.

The problem: feeds are built for today's volumes

Most feed set-ups grow by accumulation. One team needs a file for the CRM, so a feed is built. Another needs data for the fee engine, so a second follows. Expansion into a new market adds a third. Together, these connections form an architecture that nobody designed.

Scale magnifies every weakness. Point-to-point links multiply faster than the team maintaining them. Format differences need translating before data is usable. A change at one source ripples through every downstream system. A firm tracking a few thousand funds can absorb some manual effort. A firm tracking tens of thousands across dozens of jurisdictions cannot.

The consequences: infrastructure becomes the bottleneck

Your operations team spends its time on maintenance, not analysis. Every change, from a new fund range to a new system, becomes a project.

Speed suffers too. The 2026 Asset Managers Report found that 69% of respondents believe the speed and accuracy of fund data are becoming more important differentiators in winning and retaining distribution partners. Meanwhile, 64% of investment managers said AI will only deliver meaningful value once the quality and structure of underlying data improves. Automated workflows need consistent, machine-readable inputs on a predictable basis.

What good infrastructure looks like

Four qualities help you test your current set-up or any provider you are considering.

  • One source at scale. Fewer sources mean fewer connections to maintain. FE fundinfo covers more than 100,000 active funds and 300,000 share classes across 75 or more jurisdictions.
  • Flexible delivery. Your systems choose the route, whether that is API, SFTP, FTP or email, in CSV, XML, JSON or XLSX.
  • Standardisation. Alignment with openfunds and FinDatEx means you map once, not once per source.
  • Proven security. FE fundinfo is ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified, with more than 30 years of experience in handling fund data.

How we build Data Feeds to scale

FE fundinfo's Data Feeds are designed as the golden source of data for your systems. We collect fund data directly from investment managers, validate it through automated workflows and deliver it the way your architecture needs.

One governed feed can supply your CRM, fee engine and distribution platform, including EMT, EPT, EET and SFDR data. The Data Feed Portal gives you a clear way to access and extract what you need.

Behind this sit 7m static data points and 1.5m monthly documents. When you add funds, markets or systems, growth becomes a configuration task rather than a rebuild.

Where this leaves you

Infrastructure is easy to ignore until you need to scale. Choosing a single, standardised, flexible source now is far simpler than untangling a patchwork later.
